AR party ideas!

I've decided to treat students to some new things this year...hopefully with the help of funding by PTA!
For our first graders we are going to have a kickoff party with a ventroloquist. I am asking one of my fellow librarians to show her talents in ventroloquism using her puppet named Josh? I think. This is because most of our first graders aren't ready for AR yet and we don't really start it blowing and going until 2nd nine weeks.
For our second graders we are going to try to take them to one of the Young People's Artist Series plays in Columbus which is only about 20 minutes from West Point. The play showing at the end of the first nine weeks in October is Seussical the Musical. I think that will be fun!
Second nine weeks we plan to take both grades that meet their goals to the Jumpers Party Zone about 20 minutes from us. It will probably take us 2 trips for 2 days for about 100 students each grade but it was only $150 per trip. Not bad.
Third nine weeks will be the first graders time to go and see a YPAS play, The Rainbow Fish.
Third nine weeks I hope to get a magician for the 2nd grade.
Fourth nine weeks we've decided to either take them to the movies or do a Carnival inside our cafeteria/auditorium. May is too hot to do it outside!
Hope we get all our funding!!

Bookstore

With all the lastest news on closings of Borders across the nation it reminds me of my dream to own a tiny little hometown bookstore. I always had the idea but the picture became real to me after I saw the movie "You've Got Mail" with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. I loved loved loved the idea of that quaint little bookstore where Meg Ryan would read to the kids in the afternoons with her princess hat on and how the little ones just loved it. Then after the story they raced around the bookstore and parents were waiting so eagerly to buy them a new book to take home and read. She knew all the names of all the books. She knew the authors of all the books. I wanted to be her. Just a dream. Wish it were real!!!

Author: Stephen King

Did you know that it was a Librarian who led Stephen King to such success? She introduced him to the book, Lord of the Flies. Interesting. I believe she deserves a THANK YOUUUU~

Only one week left of summer for me!

I can't believe the summer has gone so fast. It will be time for me to be back as the "Library Lady" next Wednesday, August 3rd. I have so much to do! I need some help picking out some new books to add to this year's collection. I have some suggestions already but want to make sure I get everyone's opinion! PLEASE NOTE my budget has been cut by almost 2,000.00 dollars this year...... :(
Also, I need some fresh ideas for Accelerated reader parties. Let's try something different this year. Let's get some feedback going and get some great things planned. Discuss HERE!!
